The IU 8 Engage in Innovation event is a qualifying event for the state PA Student Invention Convention.
The Pennsylvania Invention Convention gives students recognition for creating inventions to solve real world problems. All Pennsylvania students (public, charter, & private) in grades k to 12 are invited to participate in this competition. It is a K-12 invention education program that builds students’ confidence in problem identification, problem-solving and creativity. We are eager to encourage local students to problem solve and create inventions to share.
Yearly Schedule:
September through November: Students are invited to identify a problem, work towards solving it, using the invention framework. We encourage participants to consider the LAUNCH Framework, and also there is a curriculum available for free through Invention Convention Worldwide, if you want to see a more thorough approach to invention education.
December: Attend the IU 8 Engage In Innovation event. Here students share their process via a logbook, display board and present to a team of judges. Invitations to the state event will be issued to top scoring projects. OR local students can also enter into the virtual submission competition for the Pennsylvania Invention Convention (PA-IC), where top scorers will be invited to states.
February: Students compete statewide at PA-IC, held during the annual PA Educational Technology Conference and Expo in Hershey.
Top scorers will receive National Invitations to the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation in Dearborn, Michigan, in early June.
